If you’ve been wanting to get started investing in Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, you’ll need to sign up for a cryptocurrency exchange.
Cryptocurrency exchanges are similar to a stock brokerage company, in the sense that they allow users to deposit fiat money into their account and purchase crypto with it, similar to purchasing stocks.
Today we’re going to talk about Coinbase, a popular USA-based crypto exchange, so you can decide if it’s the right crypto investing app for you.
How do we rate the Coinbase crypto trading app?
Coinbase is a pretty easy to use and simple crypto investing app.
It offers most of the major cryptocurrencies and is available in over 100 countries.
The app tells you which cryptocurrencies’ price movements are correlated with each other, which is a feature I really like.
Coinbase also periodically allows users to learn about different cryptocurrencies in exchange for a small amount of the crypto you’re learning about, which is a really smart way to spread information.
Referring new users can earn you $10 worth of Bitcoin, which is a fairly decent referral bonus, BUT the new user has to trade $100 worth of cryptocurrency to be eligible, which makes it harder to get people to sign up for it.
One of the coolest things about Coinbase is a feature they have where you can get paid some free crypto to learn about different types of crptocurrency. They don’t give you a lot of crypto this way, but it’s a really smart way to spread knowledge about the industry.
Overall it’s a decent app and I give it 4/5 stars. Google Play Store user reviews give Coinbase 3.9/5 stars.

How simple is the Coinbase crypto app?

Using Coinbase to trade cryptocurrency is really easy and intuitive.
It was the first app I had ever tried trading crypto with and I pretty much immediately understood exactly what was going on, which helped me get over that initial anxiety of trying something new.
They even have a feature where you can occasionally get invited to learn about certain types of cryptocurrencies and get rewarded with free crypto for watching some short videos and answering a couple questions.
Coinbase sign-up and referral bonuses

The Coinbase sign-up and referral program, and their affiliate program for that matter, is decent, but not anything super exciting.
As mentioned previously, they will give you $10 worth of Bitcoin (BTC) if you sign up and trade your first $100 worth of crypto.
Their affiliate program allows you to earn 50% of the trading fees from your referrals for the first 3 months after they join Coinbase, which can make you a solid amount of money IF you can refer highly active traders.
The biggest problem with their affiliate program is you can make less than their normal referral program if people join and aren’t active.
Crypto price research tools

The price research tools on the Coinbase app aren’t really powerful or appealing to me.
They give some basic charts, basic information about the crypto you’re looking for, and some relevant news stories, so nothing special to see here.
The one research feature they do offer that I really like is price correlation, which shows how the prices of different cryptocurrencies react relative to the crypto you’re researching, but that’s not enough to make me give Coinbase a high rating for research tools.
